Watercolor and gouache paints paper, 5.5″ x 7.5,” 2016

Recently someone saw this piece and told me they thought it was Spiritual. To be honest that hadn’t really occurred to me.

I have always been inspired by ‘sacred geometry,’ but this work was created with more of a design sensibility at the time. Now I see something greater than just a study and experiment in fundamental shapes and lines. I see something spiritual.

Art describes the invisible world; it hints at the hidden story. Wassily Kandinsky wrote a book promoting a spiritual revolution in painting which included, “Just as musicians do not depend upon the material world for their music, so artists should not have to depend upon the material world for their art.”
