Watercolor on paper, 2020
8″ x 8″
(White frame included)
This work is currently in a show in Santa Monica, CA. Next time you find yourself in Santa Monica, stop by Demitasse to see some of my newest pieces.
After listening to a podcast about the positive aspects of tension in the arts I set out to create a piece with balance and some sense of tautness. To start the work I started to listen to some Miles Davis playing with Thelonius Monk, the podcast noted, “one can hear tension between the two on the recording.”
In art, tension can come from tangential shapes barely touching or pressing against each other or in this case… against the frame. My work often is elementary and simple but I don’t feel it’s simplistic.
