Untitled (kilim pattern)

$1,960.00

Watercolor and gouache on archival paper, 14″ x 20,” 2024

This piece was inspired by the rich, intricate patterns of traditional kilim rugs. The concept was merging the ancient aesthetic of a textile pattern with a modern, painterly twist, resulting in something fresh yet deeply rooted in tradition.

A friend commented that it reminded him of the tiles in a Mediterranean villa – “those beautiful, sun-drenched mosaics you might see in a villa courtyard or along a seaside terrace.”

I appreciate how patterns transcend cultures, eras and boundaries. Patterns connect us to both the past and present while constantly evolving to inspire new interpretations and creativity.

“Patterns are the language of the soul; they transcend the ordinary and speak directly to the heart.”

“The only thing that can be said about patterns is that they’re extremely personal to the artist, yet universally understood.”
— Yayoi Kusama
