Post Precious (Three Cubes),

Here is a proposal for a radical new art movement. Let’s call it the Post Precious Movement. It’s about taking the art a little less seriously and appreciating that art is like us - bound to get scars and change over time.
Among other philosophies this movement would celebrate Wabi sabi, an ancient philosophy closely tied to Japanese culture. Wabi sabi sees the beauty in imperfection, appreciates simplicity, and accepts that change is inevitable.
Post Precious is a movement that encourages the playfulness of art. Artists collaborate and even the recipient of an artwork is welcome to add or subtract from the work s/he bought or received. Since all things are only at peak condition for a period of time we would admire the inevitable, the time the work is no longer ideal. We would to explain how our art may is less precious but equally prized.

The Ghost (of Creation and Destruction)

I have a close friend in India and recently we spoke about Lord Krishna’s birthday. My friend remarked Krishna is a “cool dude” and I agree! Among other things this god of protection, compassion, tenderness and love knew the past, present and future yet he lived at the present moment. Imagine that!
Well it got me to think about other Hindu Myths.
This meditative art piece was a process of creating and destroying the image. Inspired in part by the Hindu god, Brahma considered to be the Supreme God - The Creator and destroyer of the universe.

Consider drawing a mandala, it is therapeutic! While you are drawing and coloring your mandala, you may find yourself drawn in and highly focused. You may be surprised to find that you feel less stressed and more in control.

Maui Meditation

This piece was done while practicing metta meditation, drawing and sending prayers to the people affected in Maui.
This drawing, a mandala, represents a spiritual journey. The re-introduction of mandalas into modern Western thought is credited to Carl Jung. He hypothesized that the drawings reflected the mind's inner state at the moment of creation and were a kind of symbolic archetype in the collective unconscious.
I sketched every morning in a notebook a small circular drawing, [...] which seemed to correspond to my inner situation at the time. [...] Only gradually did I discover what the mandala really is: [...] the Self, the wholeness of the personality, which if all goes well is harmonious.

Intrigued with repetition, triangles and metta meditation I combined the three with this experimental work. While drawing I meditated on loving, kindness, healing and positivity towards friends, family and groups like neighbors, acquaintance and people suffering around the world.
Metta meditation is a type of Buddhist meditation with a goal to cultivate kindness for all beings, including yourself. The main technique of metta meditation involves reciting positive phrases toward yourself and others.
